Common Signs Your Garage Door Needs Repair

by Landon Little

When you have automatic garage doors, you probably don't think much about repairs until your automatic doors aren't working correctly. If you get stuck inside your garage because your door won't open, or the door won't stay up all the way when opened, it's time to have a professional come and check to see what is going on with your system. Your problem could be a lack of power to the door, issues with the track, or the springs may be loose and ready to break. While you may still be able to get your garage door open, problems with your garage door are only going to get worse over time.

If Your Door Opens Part Way Then Closes

If you engage your automatic garage door and it only opens part way, this could be a problem with the track. If the door hits the same area each time and then starts to close again, you could have a simple block in your track preventing your door from opening any further. Sometimes a pebble or a piece of stick gets into your track and blocks the door from closing all the way. If a bracket has fallen off, this can cause your track to be uneven and make the door difficult to open or close.

When the Door Won't Stay Open

When you open up your automatic garage door and it closes a few feet, this is an issue with the springs that hold your door open. Your springs lose their tension over time, and eventually can snap. While your door shutting a few inches or more doesn't seem like a big deal, if the spring snaps your door will slam shut. This causes a dangerous situation and you need to have your door repaired as soon as possible.

When No Sounds Comes From Your System

If you press the button to your garage door and there's no sound or action, this could be an easy issue to fix. Make sure there is power going to your garage door opener. If you are using a remote to open the door, check to see if you need new batteries. Sometimes the problem is a simple one to fix and doesn't require help.

For any problems with your automatic garage doors, get your system checked out by a garage door repair service if you can't figure out the problem. Keep yourself safe with a garage door that opens without posing any danger to you or your family.
